Frequently Asked Questions
What type of laser is used?
This is a cold low-powered, non-invasive laser, similar to the laser used to scan groceries. All of our laser equipment is CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved.
How long has this type of laser been used?
Low-level laser has been used in Europe for medical reasons since 1965. Our parent company, Matrix Therapeutic Systems in Ontario, introduced this type of Laser Therapy to Canada in 1985.
Does the staff at Laser Centers for Health have credentials?
The government has implemented Standards of Practise that governs all health care professionals in British Columbia. Laser Centers for Health is a professional health care organization that is regulated and monitored by the College of Registered Nurses in British Columbia, which assures clients of safe practise and therapeutic care.
The staff at Laser Centers for Health includes a Registered Nurse who, since 1999, has completed several levels of training as a Certified Laser Therapist and as a Certified Clinical Nurse Instructor in Laser Therapy. She is responsible for the Laser Centers for Health staff, which is a team of highly trained Certified Laser Technicians.
What parts of the body are treated?
Treatment may be on the ears, hands, arms, legs, feet and side of the nose.
Does it hurt?
No. Clients experience a slight tingling or pulsating sensation and feel more relaxed after the treatment.
What are the side effects?
Laser Therapy is completely safe, painless and drug-free. Precautions exist about combining Laser Therapy with certain medical conditions or medications; therefore, each client is screened on the telephone and again in person (refer to the section entitled ‘Do I Qualify for Laser Therapy?’). Otherwise, no known side effects exist.
How long are the treatments?
Each treatment takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on individual needs.
How many treatments will I need?
For smoking cessation, approximately 90 per cent of our clients require only a single, one-hour laser treatment. For weight loss, clients usually have a laser treatment every three to four weeks until they reach their goal. For other programs, each client will be assessed to determine the number of treatments required.
What is your success rate?
A laser treatment releases a massive dose of endorphins, which helps to suppress the physical need for nicotine, drugs, alcohol, gambling, and nail biting. For weight loss, it helps to accelerate metabolism and suppresses appetite. It also reduces pain, stress and insomnia.
Our goal is to achieve a 100 per cent success rate with our clientele. Since inception, we have implemented ongoing program improvements; o ur success rate of 80 to 100 per cent for the various programs is higher than other known methods.
For example, in November 2006, one year after having Laser Therapy to quit smoking, 98 per cent of our clients reported that they were still non-smokers. Any other known method — cold turkey, the butt-out program, the nicotine patch or gum, medication or hypnosis — is only up to 29 per cent effective.
Are the treatments guaranteed?
The staff at Laser Centers for Health is committed to your success. Your success depends on your commitment to make the necessary lifestyle changes and to call us if you ever need extra support.
Is Laser Therapy covered by medical insurance?
If you have a note from your doctor for Laser Therapy, you can submit it as a medical deduction on your income tax. Insurance companies and employee assistance plans often accept the claim if you have approval from your doctor.
